What or Who is a Seattle-based dream/psych duo made up of Susana Liceaga (vocals, synth) and Robbie Houston (guitar, bass). They’ve been working together since 2023.

 

Liceaga comes from an electronic music background, while Houston’s roots are in space rock and heavy metal. The project grew out of merging their styles and discovering a new sound.​ Their songs are built around layered vocals, textured guitars, and synth-driven soundscapes, with a focus on melody and atmosphere. Liceaga’s vocals are airy and awash, while Houston’s guitar work leans on rhythm and effects.

The duo writes songs with existential lyrics that return to themes of contemplation, spirituality and the love for plants and nature as a means to finding oneself. Their debut single “Possessed Pool” reworks the story of David Bowie having his swimming pool exorcised into a slow, hypnotic track that's deep and exploratory.
